My Paradigm Shift: From Body Image to Health and Wellbeing

Personal story:

At this stage in my life, I’ve turned my focus from body image to health and wellbeing. I spent much of my early life trying to fit into a specific size of clothes or reach a special number on the scale. This was an epic battle that inevitably resulted in self-loathing. Even when I was successful in achieving those goals, it never brought me the peace of mind that I believed it would, because I was always one holiday or one vacation away from being back “on a diet” again!

When I went through menopause, I was struggling with weight gain and emotional dysregulation. I was extremely fortunate to have a doctor who recommended that I try to eat a whole foods diet to mitigate the symptoms I was experiencing. After seeing the amazing results of clean eating firsthand, I decided to learn more by attending The Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN.)

At IIN, I was trained in bio-individuality, which means that we are all unique, and therefore what works for one person may not necessarily work for everyone. We all require a unique approach to our health and wellbeing. I apply this philosophy to myself and to my clients. With the help of my Pure Energy Program, I have helped many people, including myself, identify hidden food sensitivities that have a negative impact on overall health.

After completing the Mind Body Eating Coach Certification Training with the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, I was able to combine my education in nutrition with my degrees in psychology and truly recognize the power of my mindset as the foundation of my health and wellbeing. I know now that having the right mindset about health and wellness is the most important first step in every person’s health journey. It is with this knowledge that I create my own roadmap to health and help others to do the same. I work hard to reframe my thinking and remain positive even when the negative thoughts try to bring me down.

I bookend my day with positivity and gratitude, and I focus on what’s going right in my life rather than what’s going wrong. I do my best to make healthy choices and choose habits that help me thrive. However, if I have a setback, I don’t beat myself up, but rather respond with self-compassion and self-forgiveness. This has been a life-changing practice for me and has helped me to help my clients do the same. I love helping others find joy in reaching their health goals while simultaneously learning to love themselves!
