I am so grateful that the Institute for the Psychology of Eating exists and that Marc David created something that is now infiltrating our collective conversation, after decades of it being practiced by only a small amount of people.
Now, even big weight loss companies and institutions are saying that what is in your mind is as important (if not more) than what is on your plate!
This was a monumental shift for me.
When I was young, I used to carry around a notebook marking down all the calories I was eating. I was afraid to eat and would have a strict breakfast of 1 banana while I was a young athlete.
I would come home from school starving only to be told I had to wait for my unbalanced father to come home from work and have his drink.
When my body craved vegetables I was chastised and ordered to eat milk and meat and when I wanted to keep kosher I was ridiculed…I was angry.
So, I started sneaking all kinds of food…
When I went to college I gained so much weight my doctor said he never saw anyone gain the amount of weight that I did, in such a short period of time.
After visiting the local health food store and doing my own research, I went against the doctor’s orders and ate garlic instead of taking antibiotics. I tried crabapple Bach flowers and decided to discard dairy instead of taking prescription sinus medications.
A journey had begun…
I became a lawyer to support kids in having rights in their health care and diets and was horrified when parents were sued for not doing what the mainstream dictated.
During the pandemic, I found the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, and I met Marc David via his online courses – and it was a breath of fresh air!
My sister had just died and I was so hungry to learn about true sustainable well-being, rather than panaceas.
In my opinion, everyone would benefit from working with a Mind Body Eating Coach, learn to embody and embrace sensations, and listen to the myriad of messages and signals from our nervous systems.
Let’s do it together!
