From Exhausted & Striving, to Energized & Thriving

My journal used to be filled with self-loathing. I wanted to lose weight and feel healthy, but after dinner, I would eat compulsively. I was constantly eating more food than I needed, then skipping meals, and exercising like a fool to counteract all those late-night calories.

I felt powerless to stop myself, AND I thought I was the only person who couldn’t figure it out. I thought I must be crazy or lazy.

Of course, the constant scolding drove me right into the arms of my favorite junky comfort foods. It was a vicious downward spiral that left me depressed, and eating everything between the floor and ceiling, in between dinner and bedtime. The inflammation wreaked havoc on my body. I had a variety of intestinal and digestive complaints, and I was exhausted from restless sleep.

Then I found the Institute for the Psychology of Eating.

At IPE, I was handed the magic keys to finally eat a wide variety of foods without restriction, and without the daily feeling of being driven to eat after dinner. No more self-loathing for lack of willpower, and no more constant cravings for sugary treats!

Within months of starting training at IPE, and applying the wisdom they were teaching to my own life, my after-dinner overeating was nearly zero. When I do choose to eat something after dinner, I don’t feel DRIVEN to do so, and it is ONE something, not ALL of the somethings.

I’m in tune with my appetite now, and feel confident in my food choices even when I choose to eat off-plan.

In my mind, the biggest key to reaching our goal is releasing the inner critic. I truly do not believe we can create sustainable change in our behaviors when we are constantly being criticized by anyone – especially ourselves.

The problem is, some of the negative self-talk is so SUBTLE, that it can sneak beneath the radar undetected, and continue to drive us off course and wreak havoc with our health.

Our commitment to improving the quality of our self-talk is every bit as important as our commitment to improving the quality of our foods. The two go hand in hand.

I’m passionate about helping women release self-criticism, and foods that are depleting their health, in order to create relief from all kinds of unwanted symptoms, revitalize their energy, and transform their lives around food and body.

Getting off track is easy because we are bombarded everywhere by cues from the food corporations that constantly trigger us to eat health-depleting, highly addictive, processed food-like substances.

One of our best defenses is to create a personalized set of cues we can constantly engage with that remind us we WANT to eat nourishing, highly nutritive, delicious, satisfying whole foods!

Overcoming the destructive cycle of self-criticism and overeating is possible by challenging negative thought patterns to create powerful new beliefs. Improving the quality of our self-talk alongside the quality of our food choices empowers sustainable transformation.
